Certain projects put a smile on your face right from the beginning. The thought of drawing Greenfields Performance Turf represented the unusual kind of challenge I love to accept. It's just grass, right? How hard could it be? But then the extent of the challenge dawned on me: draw every blade realistically.
Fortunately I was working with Brown Bag Marketing – a great young agency in Atlanta. They understood the challenges, and worked hard with GreenFields to make sure I had all the references I needed.
Not only were the technical challenges daunting, but maintaining accuracy in color and staying consistent with existing assets (artwork and photographs) provided additional challenges. I try to keep everything in front of me while I work (on both my real and virtual desktops) in order to keep from veering too far off course.
In the end, this project proved to be very rewarding, and I realized it's not so far removed from my normal subject matter after all. With a few tweaks, these could be strands of collagen, muscle fibers, or any number of structures found in the human body.
